Comenius is a European Union initiative aimed at fostering links between schools across Europe. After submitting an application, our bid for funding to link with schools in Palermo in Sicily, Koceali in Turkey and Jerez in Spain has been successful.
Comenius is a project which gives pupils and staff opportunities to work with children and teachers from other countries exploring common ideas and working on a topic. Our topic is I.D.E.A.S. or Important Days And Events in School.
Lots of exciting events have already taken place! In November, Miss Millington went to visit our partners in Jerez and met up with staff from Sicily. She joined in classes, met the staff, visited Seville, saw the sights of Jerez and planned the next phase of the project based around “Peace.”
In March, our partners visited Hale along with some students from Sicily. They joined in with classes, visited Wade Deacon High School, had a tour of Liverpool, went Ten Pin Bowling with staff, went to the home of Liverpool Football club, with years 4 & 5 and had a fabulous day at Chester Zoo when even the weather was kind! Work on “Peace” was shared between the partners; it was really interesting to see the work done by children in our partner’s schools. We also planned the next part of the project which was “Books”. It was a very busy week but our children really enjoyed meeting our partners; they even picked up some Spanish, Italian and Turkish!
Miss Millington and Mrs Mowatt are visiting Sicily in May to visit the school in Palermo, share work and plan the next phase of the project.
